Nitrogen Ddioxide (no2)
Nitrogen dioxide (NO2) is a reddish-brown gas that forms when fossil fuels such as coal, oil, methane gas, or diesel are burned at high temperatures.
It is a key component of smog and can cause serious respiratory problems, especially for people with asthma.
NO2 is a primary and secondary pollutant, and its exposure can cause inflammation and irritation of breathing passages, pulmonary edema, and other health issues. It is regulated as part of the EPA's National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) and is one of the six widespread air pollutants for which there are national air quality standards to limit their levels in the outdoor air.
